Lens Cleaning

We had a wedding at the Caluwayan Palm Island and Resort at Marabut, Samar and after the reception program Stefan and Malou wanted to have some photos at the pool area. We were having a great time during the pictorial. As we were about to end the shoot I decided to do one last pose before we call it a night. I went to the couple and told them what to do and as I turned around to take a shot my lens (24-70 2.8 L) suddenly fell off from my Canon 5D Mark II camera. Unfortunately I was at the edge of the pool as there was a palm leaves blocking my path. Everyone got surprised when I was suddenly shouting ‘adto na! adto na!’ (there you go! there you go!). It was only Paul who saw it as Nelson was busy taking photos of Malou and Stefan and he even asked me what’s wrong. I saw the lens at the bottom of the pool. Gladly a resort employee was watching our shoot so he jumped right away to get the lens.

I feel sorry for the resort employee as he was totally soaked. Well for the lens I just asked Paul to clean it with water afterwards. LoL!

As of this time I’m still waiting for Canon Service Center for the assessment. Hopefully, the repair will not cost me the price of a brand new lens.

Here are some photos of our lens cleaning.

July 25, 2010 - 4:42 am Rikki D. Dy-Liacco - I'm wondering what Canon's response was to what happened to your lens. I hope everything went well. Those L lenses are too expensive to take a dip like that.

September 2, 2010 - 4:27 pm Erik Fagerberg - I was the best man at Stefan and Malou wedding in Caluwayan and the lens drop into the pool was fantastic !! The work with all the pictures was amazing good despite the lens drop in water.
