I have never felt any pressure as a wedding photographer for the last 7 years until Rikki and Melissa Dy-Liacco booked us for their wedding at the Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa in Cebu last October 16, 2010. If you will checkout the intro page of Rikki’s website (www.photosbyrikki.com) here’s what you’ll read: ‘Rikki D. Dy-Liacco is a freelance photographer, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, who specializes in commercial and lifestyle portrait photography. He is an explorer by heart and everyday is an adventure.’ Try to explore Rikki’s website and blog and you’ll be fascinated. He is truly a talented and gifted photographer. Melissa is a graphic artist; in fact, I was blown away by the layout design she made for her wedding invites. Having them as our wedding clients are simply unimaginable. I asked Rikki in one of our wedding questionnaire what attracted him to our photography and this was his reply:
‘From a handful of local photographers, Rikki was attracted to the photojournalistic style of your photography. He liked it because it closely resembled the style he employs when covering weddings, engagement or portrait shoots. He liked your attention to detail and that the pictures were not over-processed. The composition was great as well as the understanding of lighting.’
Rikki’s answers to our questionnaire were very helpful to us. Nelson and myself at least have an idea what made him choose us.
The team was all in good spirits when we were on our way to Shangri-La on the day of the wedding which was about 30 minutes drive from where we are staying. We saw Rikki for the first time at the lobby of the hotel busy taking care of some errands and after some hi’s and hello’s I asked him who’ll be doing the videography of their wedding. Rikki simply just said, we never got one and it’s all your show. Wow! I just looked to Nelson and smiled but actually the pressure I felt zoomed to the ‘nth’ level. We were walking to Melissa’s room and my mind was so occupied thinking of the situation; Rikki is a very good photographer, Melissa is a graphic artist, both of them are artists and the wedding has no videographer. Just do the math and you’ll know what I am saying.
Anyways, everything went smoothly and after finishing the onsite slideshow presentation and looking from Rikki and Melissa’s reactions as well as their guests, I suppose we were able to deliver to their expectations.
This post is the longest one I prepared since I started blogging. Preparing more than 200 photos from the preparations to the reception. I have to chop this post into two parts: Preparation+Ceremony and Reception.
Hope you guys will like this wedding pictures and feel free to share this blog to your friends and families.
Photos are taken by yours truly and my gifted partner – Nelson Petilla.
Check out Rikki and Melissa’s wedding reception in the next post. Oh by the way, I hope you’ll still continue to check this blog despite the lack of activity. We are at the moment finishing some deadlines and I hope this post will perk you up.
